The 16-year-old mother gave birth to a baby girl in November, 2016 at a private hospital in Ernakulam, Kerala.12-year-old boy
The girl claimed that the 12-year-old is the father, after which a DNA test was conducted that ascertained her claims.
Circle Inspector Jayakrishnan said, “A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) against the boy whose DNA test confirmed the fatherhood. The boy was then arrested and also followed a juvenile proceeding.”
“Yesterday the DNA test result scientifically proved that the boy is the father of the child and we are on the way to give the charge sheet under POSCO and legal procedures will begin, he added.
He further added,

“It was not an unusual medical condition but no incident of a boy becoming a father at the age of 12 had come to notice so far.”

Inspector Jayakrishna S who is investigating the matter said that a case has been filed against him under the POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act; a legal case had to be filed because the boy and the girl were minors.

A genetic profiling test was conducted by generating DNA profiles from the blood samples of the baby and father. The baby was only 18-days-old at the time of analysis. DNA profiles of both were compared to affirm paternity.

Usually, similarity in DNA is found in the case of identical twins. As the boy and the child are not identical twins, it was confirmed that he is the father of the child.

The incident had opened up a conundrum as the perpetrator and victim were minors. The police registered a case against the boy under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

The baby was handed over to Child Welfare Commission as the parents of the girl said they won’t be able to take care of the child.
